Philip Chitty – Vestige Oil on Canvas 33cm x 41cm
Vestige, Oil on Canvas 33cm x 41cm
Philip Chitty
The majority of my working life was spent as an Art Director in Advertising Agencies working on Press, Poster and Television campaigns.
In 2003 I did a BA in Fine Art Painting at City & Guilds School of Art culminating in a First Class Honours Degree. I have exhibited at various galleries including The London Art Fair, Green & Stone, Hastings Arts Forum and Jagged Art in Marylebone.
About the work
The look of my paintings owes much to walking the Weald of Western Kent. Their structure makes reference to the land, its geometry and accrued history where boundaries, field enclosures, tracks and pathways are there beneath the surface, mostly hidden but sometimes traces of their original geometry survives. Thus, it is with the building of a painting. It will contain a history of its creation, layer by layer, to reveal a final work that will contain hints of earlier incarnations.
