Garry Titterton
I am a formally trained artist living in the UK having resided in Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Italy. I create original paintings that combine rich colour, layered texture, and expressive movement. My work is designed to bring depth, atmosphere, and a distinctive contemporary presence to private collections and curated interiors.
My work has won awards in European competitions, and I have been a judge in others. My paintings have been exhibited in Europe and the UK and are held in private collections in the USA, UK, Europe, and Asia.
Previously, I was a Governor of Kent Institute of Art and Design. Currently, when not painting, I teach life drawing and painting classes. I am a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
My practice is rooted in abstraction, where colour and texture become a language for expression. I’m drawn to the tension between control and spontaneity—building compositions through layered marks, bold contrasts, and fluid movement that suggest both structure and emotion.
Much of my work is shaped by a fascination with transformation: how one colour can push against another, how texture can create depth, and how a composition can feel both energetic and balanced at once. I often work with rich reds, deep blues, warm earth tones, and luminous whites, using them to create visual rhythms that shift between intensity and calm.
Rather than depicting literal scenes, I aim to create paintings that hold atmosphere and openness. I want the viewer to engage with the work personally—to notice the movement, the surface, the fragments, and the spaces in between, and to bring their own interpretation to what they see.
